Message from the Mayor

Rainbow Lake is a friendly town, surrounded by a natural splendor, and has numerous amenities for residents and guests to enjoy. Located in the northwest corner of the province and approximately 900 kilometers north of Edmonton, the town’s economy is driven by the oil and gas as well as forestry sectors. Many people come to Rainbow Lake to take advantage of the local and regional employment opportunities and then choose to stay for the low-cost housing and quality-of-life offered in our town.

Rainbow lake boasts a kindergarten to Grade 12 school where there is low student to teacher ratio to give students an extra edge in their academics. A Health Clinic is available to treat many common medical conditions, and an ambulatory service is available for more serious health issues.

The Rainbow Lake Youth Centre is a free drop-in space providing a safe, positive, and supervised environment for youth in our community. The Youth Centre offers recreational activities, volunteer opportunities, and youth work experience. Across the street from the Youth Centre is the Multi Rec Plex, which offers a fitness center as well as a variety of organized and spontaneous play opportunities for residents of all ages and abilities. The local library provides books and resources and has access to larger regional libraries to meet the entertainment and learning needs of the community.

In the summer months, you can book a tee time on the 9-hole golf course or visit our namesake—Rainbow Lake, which is located 45 minutes west of the town. The lake offers a campground to unwind with friends and family, a beach, and is known for its excellent fishing spots, so bring your bait and tackle.

Throughout the year, you can enjoy festivals and events, including the Winter Carnival, Canada Day Celebration, annual tree lighting, and much more. Rainbow Lake is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2026. Sixty years sounds like a long time, but we are one of the youngest municipalities in Alberta. We are planning a party to celebrate our history and to collectively look forward to the years ahead.

Quite simply, Rainbow Lake is a quiet town with a humble community spirit. Our town is for people who value northern living and want a place that is serene, picturesque, and affordable to call home. Our sky is open and beautiful, the northern lights dance during the winter, and we are known as a friendly, hard-working, and welcoming community. Make your home in Rainbow.

Sincerely,

Mayor Rick Cartier
